Evidence for Learning
Assessment or Evidence for learning at The Rowan Schools is comprehensive, individualised, and designed to accommodate each child or young persons unique abilities and needs. Assessment focuses on all areas of development and progress including academic, social, emotional and functional learning.
Regular and personalised assessments allow all children and young people to receive the correct
support to ensure the succeed and grow in a holistic and meaningful way.
Some of the key strategies used at Rowan Schools are:
- IEP’s (Individual Education Priorities) – these outline specific targets that are tailored to each
individual child or young persons strengths and needs. - Observations – these are conducted by all staff throughout the school day to give authentic
assessments of children and young peoples, behaviour, social skills and emotional development. - Written work and worksheets – any written work or worksheets completed by the children and
young people is marked/assessed by class staff and added to the child or young persons work books for families to see on parents’ evenings. - Photographic evidence – this provides an opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful things they
children and young people are achieving in school. Photographs are added to Evisense and linked to each child or young persons IEP or EHCP targets and then printed and added to books for families to see on parents’ evenings. - Formative assessments – these are ongoing assessments throughout all learning experiences and
help teachers to better adapt their teaching to support all children and young people in their classes. - EHCP targets – these targets are broken down and added to each child or young persons IEP targets to ensure they are being worked on on a daily basis.
