Throughout the learning experience, we aim to facilitate learner’s acquisition of knowledge, skills and qualities which will help them to be more suitably informed about their choices and potential after leaving School. The curriculum is geared heavily towards equipping our students with the confidence to take advantage of opportunities, responsibilities and experiences that they may come across in later life. In this way, we aim to powerfully address through our curriculum the issues of disadvantage that our students may be faced with. It is imperative to equip our students with the skills needed to achieve their career goals and to have aspirations to continue in education or develop within the workplace.

It is our over-arching intention that our students have a meaningful role within society and are able to contribute purposefully to their community. The CEIAG curriculum teaches important skills related to work ethic, community spirit and independent learning and working.

The CIEAG curriculum provides the pupils at the Rowan Schools with meaningful opportunities tailored to meet their individual needs focussing on the 8 Gatsby benchmarks and are inclusive of the following:

  • Industry Visits
  • Employer/Employee Encounters
  • Mock Interviews and CV Writing
  • Skills for Work Education with specific focus on pathways
  • Development on Functional Skills and its links with industry
  • Volunteering
  • Enterprise
  • Work Experience

At the Rowan Schools we consider impact to reflect what our students have learnt. The CEIAG curriculum is a well-constructed and well-taught curriculum that has clearly defined end goals for each student that they are able to achieve through high quality teaching and assessment. The curriculum is evaluated and monitored continuously to ensure that the needs of these students are being met and that they have access to resources that will enable them to acquire the knowledge and cultural capital that they need to succeed in later life.

Suitable accreditation and assessments in Key Stage 4 and 5 will quantify exactly what students have achieved and this data will be representative of a curriculum that was enriched and well-balanced and structured. Students will leave with relevant qualifications and accreditations via the CEIAG curriculum that will enable them to pursue careers of interest to them.

The impact is measured as to whether students are ready for the next steps in their academic or employment career and whether they have the skills necessary to access these next steps whether it be college, employment or supported living. Students at Rowan have ambition to move on to appropriate, high-quality destinations and our CEIAG curriculum is reflective of this and endeavours to build on vital skills from an early age through a progressive curriculum.

Students thus far, have been successful at gaining a range of accreditations and qualifications that will enable them to move confidently forward towards their chosen career pathways. Each student has a portfolio of achievement in which they can display their success and the steps they have taken toward their chosen next steps.
