At Rowan Park and The Rowan Tree we promote all aspects of Literacy throughout the school environment and within all aspects of the school curriculum. We provide varied opportunities to engage in a story, through sensory stories and books with sensory props. The children have the opportunity to access books freely throughout the day and have sessions in the school library to choose a wider variety of books.

We have whole class, small group and 1:1 reading sessions throughout the school timetable and enjoy stories in all areas of the curriculum. We have discrete phonics lessons and small group phonics lessons for the children. We follow the Read, Write, Inc phonics scheme.

Children are offered a variety of mark making, pre-writing and writing opportunities to suit the individual child. Again, this will be available throughout the day and across all areas of the curriculum, including outside areas.
